Sporadic Notes From the Garden 15/09/22

September 15, 2022

  • Overcast and cool this morning. Rained in the night. Perfect temperature!

  • Went out at sunrise (7:30am) to pick blackberries down by the cottage with the water mill. Got about 700g, only picked the biggest, easiest to reach ones

  • Used another 1.5kg of plums in plum and blackberry jam. Want to see if adding blackberries, which contain higher pectin, get a better set.

  • Sterre rode by and we swapped a bag of plums and grapes for butternut squash and fig jam

  • Finished putting the corregated metal roof on the goat shelter. I need to start spending at least one day a week now working on the goat shelter if it’s going to be ready for winter.

  • Ordered wine yeast to try making plum wine. €7 for a 7g packet, which is good for up to 35l of wine but I don’t intend to make that much this first time around.

  • Made a large order for green manure seeds and other seeds for the winter garden from Les Refardes
